A huge setback for Gov. Cuomo as Manhattan lawmakers have knocked down his plan to fast track the process of building a Las Vegas Style Casino from 2021 to 2023.
Back in March, it was reported that three big casino houses – Wynn Resorts, Bally’s Corp . and Las Vegas Stands had been rat racing for once in a lifetime opportunity to get a New York City – area casino License this year.
Manhattan Assemblyman Richard Gottfried also quoted,” I adamantly oppose any casino in Manhattan and believe it would be seriously detrimental to the residential and commercial quality of Manhattan.”
State legislators had been working day and night forming a bill to give Manhattan officials the authority to adjudicate on any casino license proposition that came to their desks.
Although Gov. Andrew Cuomo never supported the idea of giving Manhattan Lawmakers jurisdiction to make the decision about the casino at the big apple, as the allotment cannot be passed without their approval,
With a constitutional amendment allowing seven New York gambling casinos, the rush to introduce a slice of the Las Vegas Strip to the Big Apple began in 2013. The four upstate casinos were the first to be approved, with the downstate casinos facing a prohibition until 2023.
But with the Manhattan Politicos pushing the plan down have disappointed casino execs who now wait with a hope that the bill gets revived before 2023
For now, the dreams of having one on of the Las Vegas Strip at the Big Apple has come to a halt.
