Deutsche Telekom Launches its Cloud Gaming Platform – MagentaGaming

In Germany, Deutsche Telekom launched a new cloud-based video game streaming service by the name of MagentaGaming. It leverages the edge computing technology and works seamlessly on the 5G network of any operator. MagentaGaming is dependent on the decentralized edge cloud concept so that the distance between the customer and the server is kept at a bare minimum. Gaming experts believe that with the launch of MagentaGaming, Deutsche Telekom has thrown a challenge to xCloud by Microsoft and Google’s Stadia.

The gamers will access the powerful servers when playing on the cloud gaming platform as they stream the games directly to a Windows/Mac PC or any Android device, and eliminating the necessity to download any game or purchase costly hardware. MagentaGaming made its first appearance at the Gamescom in 2019, but it was still in the beta phase. More than 20,000 users have tested the service since then, and the results have been very encouraging. Cloud gaming is considered the next significant development in the entertainment world. Many telecom companies are looking to take advantage of the cloud gaming opportunity and launch their services.

More internet bandwidth is required for cloud gaming as it has to support multiplayer experiences and hitch-free gameplay. The telecom companies are also excited about cloud gaming as they reckon that it is the perfect test for the 5G networks. The next step is to upgrade the network to handle peak demand and congestion as they are expected to happen in cloud gaming.

The MagentaGaming service introduced by Deutsche Telekom will give 100 different games for three months without any charges, and after that, they will impose fees of USD 8 per month. The service is available across a wide range of services, and the data is not subject to monthly data limits of Deutsche Telekom.
