Tencent Partners with Global Esports Federation

Tencent Esports company has joined forces with the Global Esports Federation for co-launching a “Worldconnected Initiative.”According to the announcement, Tencent and the Federation will kickstart a new global project called the “#worldonnected” initiative, which will be released during the upcoming annual Tencent Esports Global Summit in August 2020.

The launch of the “#worldonnected” initiative at the Hainan Bo Asia International Conference Center this week marks the first partnership of the Global ESports Federation with Tencent company. The President of Global ESports Federation, Chris Chan, shared a video invite to the summit, urging the world’s entire esports community to be a part of the “#worldonnected” initiative. This initiative aims to connect esports publishers, developers, and players from around the world. It is expected to establish a vast international esports community.

The initiative will build a bridge that connects sports with esports. The “#worldonnected” motto is to unify industrial leaders from sports and esports sectors. Chester King of British Esports Association and  Aurelia Ruetsch of WorldSkills International Relations, France, will be at the launch of this initiative. Joining them will be former International Olympic Committee executive board member, T.A. Ganda Sithole, and chairman of Japan’s eSports Union, Hideki Okamura.

Global leaders in esports games, Supercell, Riot Games, Electronic Arts, and Smilegate will be supporting this initiative, and their executives are taking part in the Tencent annual summit. Vice-President of Tencent, Edward Cheng, and a Senior Advisor of the Global Esports Federation, Anne Kelly Aikman, will be orchestrating the launch of the “#worldconnected” initiative.

Tencent currently owns Riot Games and has half of the total shares of Supercell. It has also made partnerships with Smilegate and EA in the esports marketplace of China. Tencent is focused on its “The New Cultural Mission of Esports in Globalization” program, which will have the Vice President of Global Esports Federation, Jizhong Wei, discussing with honoraries of the Olympic Council of Asia. The key intention of this initiative is to help the Federation bring together and integrate various interested gaming parties. It wants to avoid any instance of benefit fragmentization in the global esports industry. The initiative will also drive the confidence of esports stakeholders in joining the Olympics at some point soon. The initiative challenges the current outlook towards esports, which is perceived to be very win-centric.
